I love using natural products over manufactured products any day. Why? Well, for one, it’s cheaper. For two, I know what ingredients I am putting into my products. Isn’t it better to know that you are not using harsh chemicals inside your home? That’s why I prefer to make my own natural lemon household cleaners.
My natural lemon household cleaner is super simple and easy to make. Simply add 20 drops of lemon essential oil, 1/2 cup of white vinegar, and 1 cup of water to a glass spray bottle. Shake to combine and you are ready to clean. Wasn’t that easy?! You can use this anywhere in your home where you need to clean surfaces, such as the kitchen counter tops, bathroom sink, shower, living room, etc.
Side note: be sure to use a glass spray bottle, as essential oils can be corrosive to plastic bottles.
Why lemon essential oil?
Lemon essential oil is a natural cleansing agent. It’s non-toxic (obviously) and can be used to clean surfaces and the air when diffused. It has a nice fresh and clean smell, but it also has antifungal, antiseptic, and antiviral properties.

Other ways to use lemon essential oil cleaner:
There are so many different ways that you can use lemon essential oil to clean your home. Lemon is such a versatile ingredient that I bet you didn’t know could take the place of many toxic cleaning products. Here are some ways that you can use lemon essential oil in your cleaning routine:
Put a couple of drops of lemon essential oil onto a cotton-ball and then scrub the sticky residue away. It can be used to remove gum as well.
Lemon can be used as a natural wood-polisher. Add 1 part white vinegar, 1 part olive oil, and 15 drops of lemon essential oil in a glass spray bottle, then spray onto a soft cloth to clean the wood. It’s safe to use on wood and smells good too! If you want more shine on the wood, add more oil. If it’s not absorbing well into the wood, add more vinegar.
This is probably one of my favorite ways to use lemon essential oil. Simply add a drop of lemon to your hand, rub, and you’re clean! Get rid of those pesky little hand-sanitizer bottles that stink like alcohol.
Have kids that like to draw all over your walls and furniture? Take a cotton ball, add a few drops of lemon oil, and rub over the offending crayon drawings. Viola! No more crayon.
Do you have grease splatters all over your kitchen from frying that chicken? Use the natural lemon household cleaner recipe mentioned above to remove and cut through the grease with ease.
Have kids that play sports and their shoes stink? Maybe their equipment has a slight sweaty smell? Or your husband works out and his sneakers reek? Spritz the offending items a few times with the household lemon cleaner to bring a fresh clean smell back into your home.

You can either combine in either a spray bottle or pour the mixture into a container which can then be put onto a cloth rag for cleaning.
Mold and mildew remover:
Mold has such a stale scent and it’s not good for your home either. The good news is that lemon essential oil can take care of that in a jiffy. Simply add 15 drops of lemon essential oil, 15 drops of melaleuca essential oil, and 1 cup of white vinegar to a spray bottle. Shake to combine and spray on the mold. Wipe off with a microfiber cloth.
