Make your own DIY Natural Lemon Household Cleaner - www.homesteadfamilia.com

I love using natural products over manufactured products any day.  Why?  Well, for one, it’s cheaper.  For two, I know what ingredients I am putting into my products.  Isn’t it better to know that you are not using harsh chemicals inside your home?  That’s why I prefer to make my own natural lemon household cleaners.

My natural lemon household cleaner is super simple and easy to make.  Simply add 20 drops of lemon essential oil, 1/2 cup of white vinegar, and 1 cup of water to a glass spray bottle.  Shake to combine and you are ready to clean.  Wasn’t that easy?!  You can use this anywhere in your home where you need to clean surfaces, such as the kitchen counter tops, bathroom sink, shower, living room, etc.

Side note: be sure to use a glass spray bottle, as essential oils can be corrosive to plastic bottles.

Why lemon essential oil?

Lemon essential oil is a natural cleansing agent.  It’s non-toxic (obviously) and can be used to clean surfaces and the air when diffused.  It has a nice fresh and clean smell, but it also has antifungal, antiseptic, and antiviral properties.

Other ways to use lemon essential oil cleaner:

There are so many different ways that you can use lemon essential oil to clean your home.  Lemon is such a versatile ingredient that I bet you didn’t know could take the place of many toxic cleaning products.  Here are some ways that you can use lemon essential oil in your cleaning routine:

Goo-remover:

Put a couple of drops of lemon essential oil onto a cotton-ball and then scrub the sticky residue away.  It can be used to remove gum as well.

Wood-cleaner:

Lemon can be used as a natural wood-polisher.  Add  1 part white vinegar, 1 part olive oil, and 15 drops of lemon essential oil in a glass spray bottle, then spray onto a soft cloth to clean the wood.  It’s safe to use on wood and smells good too!  If you want more shine on the wood, add more oil.  If it’s not absorbing well into the wood, add more vinegar.

Hand-sanitizer:

This is probably one of my favorite ways to use lemon essential oil.  Simply add a drop of lemon to your hand, rub, and you’re clean!  Get rid of those pesky little hand-sanitizer bottles that stink like alcohol.
