My husband likes to work out…a lot. Which, I will admit, I love! Who doesn’t love hunks of muscle walking around the house…but that’s another subject. Anyways, because he works out, he complains that when he wakes up in the morning that he is sore. Like any good wife who doesn’t like hearing her husband complain, I set out to remedy the situation. As such, I’ve come up with my own DIY essential oil sore muscle blend.
Now, if you are a DoTerra fan, then you’ve probably heard all about Deep Blue essential oil. It’s probably my favorite essential oil for muscle pain and relaxing. It works immediately and smells so good and minty. But this post is not about that. Why? Because Deep Blue is expensive and comes in a little tiny bottle. If I used it everyday, it would be gone in two weeks. I’m not knocking it (because I really do love it), I simply can’t afford that.
As such, I’ve come up with a sore muscle essential oil blend that has the same effects as Deep Blue, but with oils that you probably already have lying around the house. Plus, putting the oils in a roller bottle and then adding fractionated coconut oil makes the blend last longer.
What is the best part about this blend? No more complaints from hubby about sore muscles. Another great benefit: he smells good when he walks in the door from the oils. 🙂 Happy oily wife, happy life.
Sore Muscle Essential Oil Blend
- 10 Drops Lavender Essential Oil
- 10 Drops Peppermint Essential Oil
- 5 Drops Black Pepper Essential Oil
- 5 Drops Ginger Essential Oil
- Fractionated Coconut Oil
Combine all essential oils into a roller bottle. Top off with fractionated coconut oil.
Benefits of Lavender Essential Oil
I’ve probably yet to meet someone who does not like lavender essential oil. It’s probably one of the most beloved oils due to its’ multi-faceted and multi-use properties. Plus, it smells amazing. The smell is one of the best parts about lavender as it can create a relaxing and calm environment. As such, lavender can help to also relax muscles due to its analgesic properties, which means it’s basically an all-natural painkiller.
Benefits of Peppermint Essential Oil
Peppermint essential oil is another one of my favorite oils, mainly due to its’ strength and fast-acting properties. This oil provides a cooling sensation and is great for relaxing sore muscles. Peppermint also has analgesic properties. I love to use peppermint essential oil for PMS, muscle cramps, and carpal tunnel symptoms.
Benefits of Black Pepper Essential Oil
Black pepper can be used for more than just cooking. It is also an essential oil that has stimulating properties to increase circulation in the body. Black pepper essential oil has anti-inflammatory properties and will work to soothe sore muscles and creates a warming sensation on the body.
Benefits of Ginger Essential Oil
Ginger essential oil is mainly known for its use in calming upset stomachs and relieving cold and flu symptoms. But it can also be used to soothe sore muscles as it is also an analgesic oil. Like black pepper, ginger creates a warming effect and relieves pain and tension in sore muscles.
