Best Evergreen Trees for Privacy

Best Evergreen Trees for Privacy

I live on a fairly large homestead property, 7 1/2 acres to be exact.  The main problem I have is that there is no privacy.  I am surrounded by neighbors who can see everything that I do on my property.  Even people driving by can see my whole property.  And that is not okay.  Not that anything weird goes on here….I just want my yard to be mine alone.  So in doing some research, I’ve found the best evergreen trees for privacy that are fast growing.

But first: What are Evergreen Trees?

Evergreen trees are trees that are green year-round.  This means that they won’t lose their leaves during the winter, leaving your property exposed…again.  The whole purpose of privacy should be to maintain that shield year-round.  The best part about evergreen trees?  They are beautiful, stately, and can also be used for landscaping designs.

For purposes of this article, I’m looking for trees that are fast growing to quickly provide me with a privacy screen around my property.  If you need to know what zone you are located in, here is a quick-reference guide.

When you find the tree that you want to buy, consider looking at online nurseries.  Do your research.  Most nurseries will provide a lower price if you buy in bulk.  Considering that I will need upwards of 50+ trees, I could use the discount.

Where to Buy Evergreen Trees:

If you become a member of the Arbor Day Foundation, you will receive 10 free trees, as well as huge pricing discounts on each tree purchased.  They do not give bulk discounts however.

Many nurseries put their trees online at Amazon.  Some nurseries sell the trees from 1-2 feet tall, but a lot sell their seeds for planting.  If you have a green thumb, then purchasing seeds in bulk may be attractive to you.  I prefer buying the trees partially grown, even if it costs a few dollars more to ensure good growth.

Maybe you have noticed that you receive nursery magazines in the mail.  These nurseries usually ship their trees at good prices and can give bulk-pricing options.  One nursery that I like is Burgess Seed & Plant Co.

Local nurseries also provide partially grown trees.  Look around your area to buy locally.  Ask if they sell in bulk at a discount.  You may also find trees at flea markets in the spring.

Hopefully this gives you some ideas on the best evergreen trees to choose for your area for fast growing and privacy screening options.  What trees do you like the best for privacy screening?
